TPCASTT Mending Wall
T- Mending wall – bringing two things together
P- paraphrase – hunters tore the wall down, ice and frost move the stones, put the rocks back onto the wall, the narrator is mischievous, the neighbor keeps making the wall even though there is really no reason to.
C – The poem was showing that the “good wall” keeps knocking down and they had to get together to “mend” it. By keeping the wall maintained they meet together and are being good neighbors to each other.
A – The speakers attitude to the neighbor was that of content. His attitude towards the walls is that of questioning. The speakers attitude towards nature is that of annoyance.
S – There is a shift from winter to spring when everything is dead of dying in winder to the two men getting together and putting the wall back up. Another shift is when he kind of just built and accepted the wall to him questioning and wonders why do the rebuild the wall every spring. Bemusement.
T – When they are ‘mending’ the wall they are also repairing or mending their neighborly relationship.
T – Walls don’t always make a good neighbor. Poets point is that physical barriers can create emotional barriers. Keeps the neighbors from knowing each other.
Diction – boulders, loaves, yapping, grasped
Imagery – Like and old-stone savage armed, Sends the frozen-ground-swell under, Spills the upper boulders in the sun
